1. Tip Tip Barsa Paani
This is undoubtedly one of my favourite songs. In the nineties when I was growing up, this song was the parameter for oomph, all thanks to Raveena Tandon's yellow saree in the rain and Akshay Kumar who was quite the eye candy. I'm sure the gay community thanked Raveena for ripping off Akshays shirt. A lot of us , I'm sure lip synced to the song imagining we were ourselves , Raveena. This song was very FORWARD for the nineties and Akshay and Raveena did complete justice to the song. Everything from the video of the song, to the dance moves to the way it was shot and choreographed to the song itself oozed ‘sexy’. Thank the dear lord for this sexy song. It's forever going to be on my playlist.
2. Aga Bai Halla Machaye Re
Rani Mukherjee came back with a vengeance with her moves and her new found oomph with the movie Aiyya and oh my god where was this Prithviraj ? I was totally crushing on him for about two years after that movie came out. The song had everything a Bollywood song needed- a heroine who probably danced her heart out (how can anyone forget those belly dancing moves done so perfectly ), a hot actor showing off his abs and the combination of them grooving to this very sexy song and the sets. I absolutely lovvvvvved the sets and the costumes which were ethnic and extremely sexy.
3. Piya Tu Ab Toh Aaja
One of the most iconic songs of our industry. Two evergreen divas have contributed to the oomph and success of this song - Asha Bhosle and Helen. I have never seen a better dancer than Helen in the bollywood industry. She made cabaret look so easy. Asha Bhosle is one of my personal favorites with the versatility her voice possesses. This song is my all time favorite because of the way Helen has owned this song and makes u want to dance along. The costumes , the feathers , the drama , the way she exuberates sensuality. The girls nowadays really need to take a point or two from her amazing dance moves / videos. There can be a compilation of Helen songs and it could sell as a tutorial for any actress who wants to look like a boss.
4. In Aankhon Ki Masti Ke
This song, the actress and the singer give me life and it is like my oxygen when I'm low. It's so self-assuring , sexy , flamboyant , effortlessly fabulous and grand. Rekha is probably one of my biggest idols. She's also one of the main reasons why I'm so comfortable with myself. I remember me and my gay friends watching Rekha’s movies and her songs and thanking God for her existence. She was this one diva that broke stereotypes back then and still continues to live life on her own terms. I was privileged to meet her in person and I even danced to her song while I was on Bigg Boss and she gifted me one of her favorite Kanjivaram sarees. That day I won that show and I felt so accomplished. I have hosted so many parties with Rekha BEING the theme In aankhon ki masti plays on loop along with saalaam-e-Ishq. Her eyes are intoxicating, her expressions are effortless and magnificent and she is the gift that our film fraternity must celebrate everyday.
I think this video and this song brings out the grandeur of our Kothas and harems and show that , they were and are also a very integral part of our culture especially when most of us think that culture only means conforming to others' opinions and suggestions as to what is culturally OK and what's not. Rekha had the guts to do roles that other actresses would usually shy away from and that's what made her, in my eyes one of the most iconic divas of bollywood.
This song is sexy in a different way, in its own unique way and that's why it's always going to be on my playlist , I’m waiting to wear the heavy jewellery , make up , the heavily embroidered Anarkali and perform this for my next drag performance and attempt to floor everyone like she did.
Il definitely floor them, either they will love it or they will not tolerate my mediocrity as compared to the OG DIVA and as a result roll on the floor, but floor them I will.
5. Dil Mera Muft Ka
This is one of my favorites for just being catchy, sort of raunchy, borderline orgasmic and straight up bringing out the SL*T in me. I think all of us whether male, female, straight, gay, bi, trans or any other dimension, have this ONE song that brings the sl*t in them out. The singers have done a fab job, the music is fab and Kareena and Mariyam are looking gorgeous in the video and also, Saif in that uniform! This song is just downright sexy for me.
